Dr. Christine Sun

Instructor

Dr. Christine Sun, President of Waterloo Filtration Institute, is a renowned technical and market expert in the global filtration industry. With over 30 years of experience in both academia and the industry, she has an in-depth knowledge of filtration, and extensive hands-on expertise in product development, with over 100 technical publications and patents. She is also actively involved in many air/liquid filter standard test developments.

Dr. Sun received her Ph.D. from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and her Executive Certificate from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management. From 2004 to 2011, Dr. Sun worked for Freudenberg Filtration Technologies as the R&D manager and Technology Director for Donaldson 2011-2013. She was the AFS Chair from 2016 to 2017 and received the AFS Fellow Award in 2019, Sr. Scientist Award in 2012, and the best paper award from INDA in 2008. She is also an editorial board member for Textile Research Journal and Journal of Industrial Textiles.

Dr. Cédric Vallet

Dr. Cédric Vallet is the Head of Product Management & Business Development – Filtration Division, at Ahlstrom (in France). He has 20 years of experience in Filtration; in R&D, then in Sales & Marketing. Expertise in filtration media manufacturing and various air & liquid applications. He led the Ahlstrom-Munksjö FiltEV® launch, a new platform of high-performance filtration materials for Electric Vehicles. He received his Ph.D. in 2006 from the University of Rennes (FR) and Engineering Master’s Degree in Chemistry, ENSCR, 2002.

Dr. Swarna Agarwal

Dr. Swarna Agarwal is Senior Material Scientist at PTI Technologies. At PTI she is responsible for all the liquid, air and fuel cell filter product development for aviation industry. Prior to this, she was Engineering Manager for filtration media R&D at Parker Hannifin, Engine and Mobile Original Equipment Division, USA. At Parker she was responsible for R&D for diesel fuel, hydraulic nand H2 fuel-cell filters. While working at Parker she has developed more than 50 new products and improved the R&D technology and capabilities to an advanced level.  Prior to Parker, she worked as a filtration scientist at UCLA, Water Planet Inc. Los Angeles and ITV Denkendorf Germany. She has over 18 years of academic and industrial experience in new product development for various filtration applications, nonwovens manufacturing, nanotechnology and surface functionalization. She is an expert for coalescence through porous media, emulsion formation, characterization and separation, interfacial and wetting science, bio-inspired textiles, medical textiles, and project management She received the AFS Senior Scientist Award in 2018, Parker Inventor appreciation Award 2021, WFI product of the Year Award 2021. She has over 30 publications, one book and 3 patents. Dr. Agarwal received her PhD from University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Mr. Mike Malloy, Principal, Malloy Strategies, LLC, has more than 25 years’ experience developing, launching, and selling Filtration Media Solutions, collaborating with global leaders on some of the industry’s most innovative products. He is a strategic commercial leader who believes that Filtration is an essential tool in creating a cleaner world that provides sustainable prosperity for all its people.  In roles ranging from Product Marketing to Business Development to Sales Leadership, he has created long-term value working with top technology and market teams in segments like Indoor Air Quality, Cabin Air, Fluid Power, and Life Sciences, and has a comprehensive understanding of the media manufacturing processes that support them. Mike specializes in translating complex technical concepts into actionable plans and profitable products through multi-functional engagement and team leadership. He is currently the Principal of Malloy Strategies, LLC, specializing in Innovative Sales and Marketing Strategies for the Filtration Industry. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in English and a Master of Public Administration from Iowa State University.


Mr. Michael Neukirch, Sr. Technology Manager of global wetlaid liquid filtration at Hollingsworth & Vose (located in Germany), has over 25 years of industrial experience in Product Development and Strategic Innovation Management in B2B and B2C industries. Michael has broad expertise in various food, liquid, and filtration media development, sustainability, and process technology development. After receiving his diploma in chemical engineering in 1995, Michael started his career at a consulting firm and joined P&G as Head of the European development lab for Tissue products and Researcher in nonwovens/adhesives till 2000. Between 2000 and 2015, he headed the Development, IP, and Innovations management for Melitta Europe and Duni AB and holds various IPs in the field of household products and filter media. In 2012 one of his developments was awarded the most innovative product (Horecatel). In 2013 he earned an MBA in Strategic Innovation Management. Since he joined H&V in 2015, he has built a global team researching and developing next-gen media for Hydraulic, Fuel, and Coalescer (compressed air, Hydrogen, compressed gases, …) applications. He is a member of the European Lead team of Hollingsworth & Vose.
