This is an advanced course in air filtration to discuss air filter design principles and processes, including key product characteristics, customer requirements, filter media and configuration selection, prototype and lab testing, field test and validation for various applications, such as HVAC, transportation, industrial dust removal, gas turbines, paint spray booths, clean rooms, hot gas filtration, air purification, personal protection, etc. The standards used for product evaluation and the trends for future development will also be discussed.

Dr. Christine Sun

President @ Waterloo Filtration Institute

Dr. Christine Sun, President of Waterloo Filtration Institute, is a renowned technical and market expert in the global filtration industry. With over 30 years of experience in academia and the industry, she has an in-depth knowledge of filtration, extensive hands-on expertise in product development, has over 100 technical publications and patents. She is also actively involved in many air/liquid filter test standard developments.

Dr. Sun received her Ph.D. from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and Executive Certificate from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management. From 2004 to 2011, Dr. Sun worked for Freudenberg Filtration Technologies as R&D manager, and then served as Technology Director for Donaldson from 2011-2013. She was the AFS Chair from 2016-2017 and received the AFS Fellow Award in 2019, Sr. Scientist Award in 2012, and the best paper awards from INDA in 2008. She also serves as an editorial board member for Textile Research Journal and Journal of Industrial Textiles.

Over the years, Dr. Sun has developed many professional courses including: “Nanofiber Technologies in Filtration” (AFS, 2013), “Filter Media Training Course” (INDA, 2014-17), “Air Filtration Market, Technologies and Trends” (AFS, 2015), “Filter Media Market and Technologies” (WFC12, 2016), “Filter Media Technologies” (AFS, 2019), and “Facemask Media Technologies (WFI 2020). Dave Rousse, INDA’s president, stated ‘The addition of INDA’s Nonwoven Filter Media Training Course was tremendously received’. Dr. Sun became known as “a brilliantly articulate and lively instructor who is skilled in guiding filter media professionals through the complexities of the air, liquid, and nanotechnology markets.”
