Waterloo Filtration Institute and The Filtration Society Join Forces to Advance Filtration Industry

[Toronto, Canada and Chester, UK - August 21, 2023] – The Waterloo Filtration Institute (WFI) and The Filtration Society (TFS) proudly announce the signing of a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 17, 2023. This strategic partnership is poised to drive innovation, knowledge dissemination, and growth within the global filtration and separation industry.

The MoU solidifies the commitment of both WFI and TFS to support and promote the interests of their respective members and supporters. The collaboration will focus on initiatives that bring students and young professionals into the field of filtration and separation, facilitating training and skill development essential for the industry's growth.

As we face major challenges across the global with climate change, population growth and sustainability, people will require cleaner air and water to live. Many of the solutions we will need have yet to be invented & developed so collaboration will be key among leading groups to help this process evolve. Amongst the many requirements for this to occur we will need to encourage many more scientist and engineers to enter the field of Filtration & Separation (F&S) and understand the specialist knowledge required to build businesses and solution of the future in this arena.

TFS and WFI have joined forces with the aim of bridging this gap by making it possible for more students and younger people to enter the world of F&S with the training required for them to grow and develop in the subject.

TFS will provide annual bursaries, funding and training for young people to develop specialist skills on certified WFI courses in areas such as sustainability, the circular economy, new advanced materials for solution towards cleaner gasses and liquid of the future. The first of these students & younger people will be sponsored to join WFI annual conference on Dec 5th & 6th 2023 (WFI 2023) to help learn from leading experts across the world about some of the challenges we face and many of the potential solutions which exist today.

Commenting on the agreement, Richard Lydon, Secretary General TFS said "In order to tackle some of the major global challenges in sustainability, we will need to train, develop & encourage many more engineers, sciences and business leaders into the specialist areas of filtration & separation and develop these into future business collaborators & influencers."
