Engaging the Future of Filtration: Membranes, Nanofibers, and Sustainability
At the Waterloo Filtration Institute (WFI), we continually strive to foster innovative thinking and share cutting-edge knowledge about the dynamic field of filtration. Our courses and annual conferences stimulate intellectual discussion and nurture the worldwide filtration community's growth. Here’s an update on our recent and upcoming activities.
Today's Course on Membranes in Filtration
Earlier today, we delved deep into the world of membranes in filtration in an enlightening course led by Mr. Scott Yaeger, President of FAST International, Inc. From seawater desalination to biopharmaceuticals, membranes are an integral part of various critical applications. The course gave attendees comprehensive knowledge about the membrane market, the technologies used to create membranes, and their desired performance characteristics for different applications. We were honored to have Dr. Wu Chen (Dow USA), Dr. Eric Hoek (UCLA), Dr. Thomas Peters (Germany), Prof. Richard Lydon (UK), and Dr. Christine Sun (WFI USA) joining us in the panel discussion on challenges, emerging technologies, and trends of membrane applications, fostering dialogue on the future of this rapidly evolving sector. As always, we’re grateful to all the participants for contributing to this vibrant discussion. You can watch the course recording via the course website here.
Next Week's Course on Nanofibers in Filtration
We invite you to join us next Tuesday for an insightful course Nanofibers in Filtration, on June 30, 2023, 8:00AM -10:00AM, instructed by Dr. Christine Sun, President of WFI. This course will explore why nanofibers can enhance filtration performance, the methods used to produce various nanofibers, and how to structure them in your filter media for optimal filter product design. We will have a panel discussion on new developments, opportunities, and trends at the end. Given the rapid growth of nanofibers in advanced filter product design for air and liquid applications, this course promises to be an enriching experience for both air and liquid filtration professionals.
WFI 2023 Annual Virtual Conference
On behalf of the WFI 2023 organizing committee, we invite you to join us at the Waterloo Filtration Institute 2023 Annual Conference (WFI 2023), December 5–6, 2023, 8:00AM –12:00PM EST. The theme of this conference is Filtration and Its Influence on the Future of Our Planet. It will be an international leadership conference to address the critical roles of filtration and separation for healthy living, surrounding environments, and their impacts on future generations. The virtual conference will feature the following sessions:
Session 1: Emerging Opportunities for Cleaner Air and Water Session 2: Advanced Technologies for Next-Generation Filtration Solutions Session 3: Sustainable Filtration Solutions for a Circular Economy Session 4: Filtration's Impact on the Future of Our Planet
These sessions promise to delve into new developments, future trends, and emerging technologies in filtration. The topics to be covered encompass a wide range of areas, such as new government regulations and guidelines, first pathogen mitigation standard ASHRAE 241P, IoT-enabled filtration systems /advanced sensors (and its roll out), sustainable and eco-friendly materials, nanofiltration, evolution of healthy buildings /residential living, filters for the developing world, carbon footprint reduction, advanced water and membrane filters, waste minimization, industrial hot gas/catalytic filtration and innovative approaches to address global challenges.
